The Oil Cleansing Method

Hmmmmm.... combating oily skin by using...... oil?  Yup. True story!  Oil Cleansing works on the principal of solubility.

Solubility is the property of a solid, liquid, or gaseous chemical substance called solute to dissolve in a solid, liquid, or gaseous solvent to form a solution of the solute in the solvent.

So essentially, the oil used to cleanse your skin, will dissolve the oil that has hardened with impurities and become stuck in your pores. Oil is not the enemy, it is our bodies way of protecting, healing and nourishing it's biggest organ, its skin.  So many commercial cleansers and soaps are designed to strip all oil from the skin, initially drying (often over drying), which often causes our smart skin to over produce more oil in an effort to replace what has been so harshly stripped out! When we strip our skin using soaps or other harsh and/or chemical cleansers, it either dries out to the point of being sore, flakey and patchy, or it freaks out and goes into overdrive, leaving us with the all too familiar oil slick (T-zone anyone??)  Distressed, out of balance or inflamed skin is also one of the causes of acne and spots (along with hormones, other environmental factors such as what make-up you use and how often you change your pillow case, and what food and drink you feed your cells.... have you signed up for our newsletter yet? Sign up now, we discuss these things in detail there!)

Oil cleansing is a safe and effective way of dissolving and drawing out these old oils, toxins and impurities without stripping the skin, in fact, moisturising and nourishing the skin as it cleanses.

So how do you oil cleanse?

It's actually incredibly simple.  And that's the beauty of it.

Most of our community of TOCC oil cleansers only need to cleanse once at night.  If you are going to bed with clean skin, there is really no reason to cleanse again in the morning, and we aren't going to tell you to, just to get you to go through our product faster!  We shower at night, so we apply a generous amount of the cleanser before getting in, rinse our facecloth under fairly warm water (you want it to be warm and steamy to open up your pores, but not so hot you scold yourself!), then give it a squeeze and place it over our face.  Once it has cooled down, roughly 8-10 seconds, we use the cloth to wipe away the oil.  We repeat this 2 or 3 times until all the cleansing oil is removed.  Always be gentle with your skin, don't tug on it, try and use gentle upward motions to stimulate blood flow.

Once you've cleansed and hopped out of the shower, dry off with a clean towel and apply your desired amount of Night Oil.  We like to use a lot, it just feels a little luxurious like that!  Rub any excess oil into your hands (one of the first places to show age!) or any areas of your body you may have stretch marks.  The night oil will sit on your skin for longer than the day oil, but permeates deep over night as you sleep, and when you wake in the morning you will find it has completely soaked in.

When we wake up in the morning we simply wash our face with water in the shower, or wipe with a warm face cloth, then dry off and apply TOCC Day Oil.  Wait until it has mostly soaked in (around 5 minutes) then apply make up and off we go!

All TOCC oils have been designed to work in synergy with one another, each providing a specific skin loving benefit.  You don't need to use them all together, however using different moisturisers or creams with the cleanser may deliver differing results.
